Parking Near King’s Cross

Driving into central London can be a challenge at the best of times, and parking near King’s Cross is rarely straightforward. Whilst I would always advise against it and would instead recommend using the Tube or Rail services (we are well served by many stations and lines here in Bloomsbury), I appreciate that sometimes, guests will want to bring a car in for one reason or another.

So I’ve pulled together a list of nearby car parks that generally get decent reviews (beware that some definitely don’t – so be careful), plus a few handy tips for finding a space and avoiding the usual headaches.

I’ve also included some general advice about street parking, apps you can use to find cheaper or private spaces, and when you might be able to park for free. There’s not a huge amount of free parking about, but if you time it right, you might be in luck.

Car parking near King’s Cross – inside advice

If you’re thinking of driving into London and parking near King’s Cross, I’ll be honest with you, it’s not the easiest of tasks. Parking is limited, can be expensive, and the reviews for some of the local car parks aren’t exactly glowing.

That said, it’s not impossible, especially if you plan ahead. Here are a few pointers and tips I’ve put together based on what I’ve found (and heard from guests over the years).

Is there any free parking?

In short yes, but not much, and usually only at certain times. Most street parking around Bloomsbury and King’s Cross is pay-and-display and usually runs from 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday. However, you might be able to find a free spot on:

  • Sundays and public holidays – some residential streets relax restrictions then, though it varies depending on the borough.
  • Saturday afternoons – some zones (like CA-D near King’s Cross) allow free parking after a certain time.
  • Evenings – outside of restricted hours, some residential streets may offer free parking, but be careful because most still require a permit or have paid bays.

Using paid parking

Car parking near King’s Cross isn’t cheap, with rates starting at around £6 for 20 minutes and going up to £40 for 24 hours. For short stays, St Pancras International Car Park tends to be a bit more reasonable by the hour. I’ve listed a few secure parking options below, leaving out the ones that have particularly bad reviews.

You’ll also find a few on-street paid bays nearby that can be used via apps like RingGo, and there are cheaper private driveways and spaces listed on parking apps like JustPark and YourParkingSpace – definitely worth checking those before you set off.

Handy tips if you’re driving into King’s Cross

  • Book ahead – Use parking apps to reserve a space in advance – it can save a lot of stress (and money).
  • Check the small print – Some car parks have height limits or restricted access hours.
  • Think about how long you’ll stay – For longer visits, a pre-booked space might work out cheaper than hourly parking.
  • Know your zones – King’s Cross falls inside both the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) and some areas are also within the Congestion Charge Zone, so you may need to factor in those costs too.
