We often play host to international language students here at the Mentone Hotel, and we’re lucky enough to have good relationships with a few local language schools that bring their overseas students over to stay with us while they immerse in their studies.

We also sometimes host international visitors who are here to look for property, and find it helpful to take some English lessons during their stays.

We have a good relationship with St Giles International here at the Mentone, and regularly host their overseas English language students over on their long-term courses.

The school is housed in a lovely 100-year-old building in the heart of Bloomsbury, just opposite Russell Square and a short walk from the British Museum. I happen to know that students like the facilities at St Giles, such as its rooftop garden, library, study space and café as well as its social programme.

St Giles has a diverse mix of students of various ages and nationalities, so it’s a great place to meet people and learn about other cultures whilst studying English. They offer beginner courses, international semesters, university, IELTS and Cambridge assessment preparation courses, business English and teachers of English courses.

ABC School of English

ABC is another language school near Cartwright Gardens, this time located in Covent Garden. They offer English courses to students from all over the world and are known for their small and friendly personal service, and relaxed, sociable learning environment.

They have what they call an ‘exciting’ social programme, and offer a range of courses at a variety of levels covering personal, academic and professional learning needs.

Something interesting that I have to say I’ve never seen offered by any other language school is ABC’s ‘English and dance classes’. They offer a unique opportunity to combine English lessons with over 40 different dance style courses, from ballet, tap and jazz to Latin, street and hip-hop.

LSI (Language Studies International) has been around since 1965 when its first school opened in Kensington. Since then they’ve expanded globally and now have 14 schools across seven countries.

LSI London is located within walking distance of the British Museum and Oxford Street and is equipped with a student lounge, library and a computer room with free internet access. They offer a wide variety of English language programmes, including IELTS preparation and Cambridge English language assessment courses.

This language school near Cartwright Gardens could be a good option for you if you’re pursuing a professional career, as they offer specialised courses such as English for Medicine and English for Law, as well as English for Teaching and English for Public Speaking and Presentations.

The school is located a short walk from Holborn Station and offers evening and weekend sessions, so it’s good for anyone who’s combining work and study.

As well as teaching languages, Lingo Class also offers culture and corporate training programmes, so you get a fully-rounded learning experience.

The Covent Garden-based London school is housed in a stunning Georgian building with its own outdoor courtyard, student study centre and student lounge.
