Where to get Halal Food near King’s Cross

Halal Food near King’s Cross London
We’re often asked by guests where to find halal food near King’s Cross, and while we don’t claim to be experts, we’ve done a bit of digging to help point you in the right direction.
Whether you’re after a quick bite, a sit-down meal or something a bit special, there’s a real mix of halal-friendly places within walking distance of the hotel – everything from Turkish and Greek to Indian and Sri Lankan, Korean BBQ to Malaysian – and even the good old British Sunday roast.
So I’ve pulled together a list of spots that, at the time of writing, either state they are halal certified, serve halal food or are widely recommended for it. That said, menus can change and different restaurants follow different practices, so if halal certification is important to you, it’s always worth double checking with the restaurant directly before you book or order.
Hope you find something you enjoy! I’ve listed everything in order of distance from the hotel.

They offer set menu options, plus an a la carte menu comprising mezes, grilled meats, fish and salads. Dishes include lamb or chicken iskender, lamb moussaka, beef goulash, duck leg, chicken sote, and rib eye steak.
There’s also a range of pasta dishes, loads of hot and cold starters (which look good for sharers), and a fair list of veggie options including moussaka and a range of vegetable stews.

The Great Chase
British/European Halal & Alcohol-Free Restaurant
6G Esther Anne Place, London N1 1WL
12 minute taxi ride from the hotel
Tel: 020 4580 1405
Website
Open Tuesday 5.30pm-9pm, Wednesday & Thursday 5.30pm-10pm, Friday 5.30pm-10.30pm, Saturday 12-3pm and 5-10.30pm, Sunday 12-9pm
This halal and alcohol-free restaurant is a fair hike from the hotel (nearly 40 minutes if you’re on foot – or you can get a taxi which takes just over 10 minutes) – but I’m including it because there aren’t many dedicated halal restaurants serving ‘British’ food like traditional Sunday roasts and steaks. And their story is pretty endearing.
The Sunday roast is served on a ‘when it’s gone it’s gone’ basis, and offers things like rosemary confit chicken leg, 16-hour slow-cooked lamb shank, roasted aged sirloin of beef, and vegetarian haggis pie.
The starters on the main a la carte menu sound pretty good – lamb croquettes, mackerel yakitori, BBQ marrowbone in garlic brown butter with toasted sourdough, and a vegan option of smashed cucumbers with maple tahini.
Mains include harissa slow cooked lamb roast, beef Wellington with beef dripping mash, charred sea bass in white cream tarragon sauce, and 30-day dry aged ribeye or sirloin steak served with Café de Paris butter.
Might give this one a try! I’ll update this post if I do.

The main a la carte menu is extensive, offering everything from vegetarian and seafood dishes through to a large selection of chargrilled meat, Korean stews, Korean fried chicken, steamed buns with a range of fillings, and Kimbap (rice rolls filled with various ingredients wrapped in seaweed).

15 minute walk from the hotel
Tel: 020 7278 1111
Website
Open Monday to Sunday 11.30am to 9.45pm
This restaurant and takeaway has mixed reviews but I’m including it on the list as it states it does halal food and being Malaysian, it’s something different.
The menu is divided into two parts – Roti and Dosa. Roti is a flaky layered flatbread dish, and Dosa is a thin pancake/crepe made with rice batter and stuffed with various ingredients. You can order online for collection, or eat in – the restaurant itself is designed a bit like a school classroom with desk-like tables and lots of lights.

This restaurant is said to be built around ‘family-style feasting’ and the menu backs that up with the likes of seafood grills and beachside-style snacks.
The Hoppers Experience is a set menu offering a ‘little bit of everything’ – but it needs to be taken by the whole table, as does the Group Menu. There’s also an a la carte menu covering a wide range of roasts, grills and curries, as well as a variety of small dishes that look good for sharing. The vegetarian and vegan menu is also fairly extensive.
Hoppers has both indoor and outdoor seating, and also offers a takeaway and delivery service.

Dishoom King’s Cross
Indian Restaurant
5 Stable Street, London N1C 4AB

Tel: 020 7420 9321
Website
Open Monday to Wednesday 8am-11pm, Thursday & Friday 8am-12pm, Saturday 9am-12am, Sunday 9am-11pm
As mentioned in a few of my food-related blogs, Dishoom is one of my favourite places to eat in King’s Cross and I’m happy to keep on going back for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The setting is out of this world – a former Victorian railway transit shed – and it’s so lively and buzzing that you won’t want to leave.
It’s not your everyday Indian restaurant – there are some real star attractions on the menu, from the lamb shank Nalli Nihari Biryani to the Kacchi style Chicken Berry Britannia and tandoori lamb chops.
There’s also a special breakfast menu, and they also do Group Feasting Menus.
Please do try this restaurant if you’re in town – it’s a family favourite of ours – and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
