Movie Nights: Cinemas near Cartwright Gardens, Bloomsbury and King’s Cross

Cinemas near Cartwright Gardens, Bloomsbury and King’s Cross
Something we’re asked a lot by our guests is where the best place is to catch a movie during their stay. So I thought I’d put a blog post together listing all the cinemas near Cartwright Gardens London so you can see at a glance what’s around here.
We’re lucky enough here at the Mentone Hotel to have the Curzon Bloomsbury cinema on our doorstep, literally just around the corner. And as we’re only a 20 minute walk from Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square, and the same from King’s Cross, movie night options are aplenty.
Curzon Bloomsbury
This cinema near Bloomsbury is situated within the Brunswick Centre, a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
The Curzon Bloomsbury is an historic arthouse cinema with intriguing heritage. There are six screens – each named after iconic Curzon-operated sites since 1934 – including the 148-seat Renoir which is a striking, theatre-style auditorium. The Curzon is also home to the 55-seat Bertha DocHouse, which is a dedicated documentary screen that hosts only documentary premieres and live Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
If you want to make an evening of it, pay a visit to the onsite café with its floor to ceiling windows. They serve an all-day bar food menu, as well as a selection of cocktails, wines, craft beers and soft drinks.

Everyman Cinema King’s Cross
If you’re looking for a cinema near King’s Cross London with a difference, Everyman is in my opinion worth a visit. Just 20 minutes on foot from the hotel, I’d say you can probably count this as more of an experience than a simple night at the flicks.
Instead of queuing for popcorn then heading into a traditional auditorium, you get to watch the latest films from the comfort of a sofa, whilst food and drink are delivered to your side.
There are a total of four screens, the largest having 109 seats and the smallest just 28 seats. Screens 1, 2 and 3 are in the R7 building on Handyside Street, and the 28-seat screen 4 is situated in the more intimate ‘Everyman on the Corner’, which is a two-minute walk away.
If you fancy a pre- or post-film bite to eat or a drink, the cinema shares a building with the Happy Face pizzeria, as well as underground cocktail bar SUPERMAX. If you’re in the mood for a drink or bite after your film, there are plenty of options nearby – our guide to nightlife in Bloomsbury is a great place to start.

There are also plenty of famous-name-chain restaurants in the Brunswick Centre just around the corner from the hotel. And at Granary Square about a 20-minute walk away in Kings Cross, you’ll find a whole host of places to eat and drink, each with its own outdoor terrace for a spot of al fresco dining in the warmer months.
Everyman Screen on the Canal – Free Open-Air Cinema
Everyman Screen on the Canal is a free cinema near Bloomsbury running from 1 July to 18 August 2024.
If you like the outdoors and enjoy a good film, you’ll experience both here courtesy of a huge screen set on the far bank of the canal at Granary Square.
Films are shown throughout the day and evening, including classics such as Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Grease, Casablanca and Singin’ in the Rain, as well as selected Wimbledon match screenings.
There’s a drinks and snacks menu, or there are plenty of restaurants and cafés in the vicinity to choose from if you want to grab something either side of your viewing.
Capacity is limited and it’s a ticketless event, so if there’s something you specifically want to see, I recommend you show up early to secure your seat on the steps.
